Klassic Inchtuthil - 'Inch'

Butter wouldn't melt...
so gimme a carrot!

8 yr old 17hh bay gelding by Classic (TB) out of our home bred mare, Run the Gauntlette (½TB ½ Shire)

Inch is the second foal of the second generation. He was born in Scotland at 8 am one sunny day in June. He was, and still is, a very handsome boy. He’s very much a ‘Jack the Lad’ and was quite a handful as a foal. But after he had been weaned and had travelled about a bit he became so laid back that now he’s completely horizontal! He has very extravagant paces, tons of impulsion, good balance and wonderful rhythm.

He should have been called Classic Inchtuthil but someone had bagged the prefix at SHBGB so C had to be K.

A winner at Thirlestane

As a yearling, Inch accompanied big brother Ounce to Thirlestane to see how he would do being shown in hand. A big thank you here to Andrew Hunter who was towed around the castle grounds for 5 hours and Robert Raeside who was brave enough to show him! Anyway he won his class and very nearly took the Reserve Champion! The judge loved him. It was enough for us and he spent the next 3 years playing with his toys and looking after his little sister, as any youngster should!

Adolescents!

At 4 he was backed and ridden away, (he really didn’t bat an eyelid at the whole thing) and at the end of that year went to Franck Bourny’s yard to start training as an eventer. We had always thought that he had the potential to be better than Ounce, we’d watched him free jumping and he showed a lot of ability.

However, we now feel that his true potential lies with dressage.

Fred Mercier on Inch

We moved Inch with Ounce to Max’s yard where Max’s wife, Frederique, took a great interest in Inch. Fred is a dressage rider and is the Press Officer for the Cadre Noir. So Fred took over Inch’s training and competed him successfully through 2009.

The dressage levels in France are very different from the UK, it is much more advanced and young horses are required to do difficult movements.

Unfortunately most of 2010 was lost due to an injury and also Fred becoming pregnant!

Now in 2011, it's all systems go!

Sadly Inch is for sale, hopefully to a professional who can take him up the levels to become the dressage star he has the potential to be.
