16 yr old 17hh brown Trakehner mare by Maestro out of Ithaca.
Iona is a full sister to Muschamp Impala, Andrew Nicholson’s 4* eventer.
She came to us by a string of coincidences. Her owner was trying to locate Franck Bourny, who had competed Ounce for us, and contacted us through our site. In passing, she mentioned that she had a broodmare for sale. We asked for details and it transpired that she had been bred by Janet Scollay Lorch at Muschamp (where our mares had just been)! Janet remembered her well. Then we discovered that Franck had owned and competed her as a 5 and 6 yr old in the UK and even had some photos!
So our friend, Miri Ringrose went off to see her in England and we bought her between us!

With her pedigree we wanted to put her to a top event sire with plenty of bone. We chose Welton Ambassador. It was a good choice.
In 2009, Iona travelled to France, where, in May 2010, she produced a really fabulous filly foal – Abyssinia.
She is in foal again, a full Trakehner this time by Stradivari, due in June 2011. We wanted to try Grafenstolz, but unfortunately frozen semen wasn’t for her.
Iona has a wonderful temperament and extravagant movement that she has passed on to Abyssinia, who is quite the most biddable, good-natured elegant foal that we have ever had!
